To talk about the PML9506 TV itself, it looks fantastic. There is more screen than anything else, the frame is made of premium aluminium giving it a shiny silver appearance, and the legs are extendable so you can conveniently raise it to a height based on your liking. Not only does this make it easily customisable, it also means you can allow for more room beneath.
The remote also maintains the gorgeous, slick metal look with polished metal on various parts of it. The remote does have a lot of buttons, which some might find complex to navigate. It has a leatherback which makes it quite comfortable to hold. At the top of the remote are shortcuts to streaming services Netflix, Rakuten TV and Prime Video.
The picture is thankfully excellent. The TV is powered by the P5 AI which renders realistic textures. HDR10+ gives the colour display a near perfect accurate look: it is able to distinguish subtle differences in shades and display a wide variety of colours in the same shot through an intelligent system that can individually dim and brighten backlight zones to match the display. It still can’t reach blacks the same level as OLED TVs but the colour display is still powerful and beautiful.
The screen contains 4-sided Ambilight which projects the colours from the screen onto the surrounding wall, thus making the viewing experience 1000 times more immersive by modifying the room ambience to match what’s on TV.
The screen is also wonderfully bright and capable of reaching a maximum brightness of 1500 nits, making it suitable for a wide variety of room lightings including those with lots of artificial light. Thus you’ll always get a good viewing experience with this TV night or day.
The ports on the TV are incredibly convenient, coming in the form of 4x HDMI, 3x USB Type A, Digital Audio Out, LAN and a 3.5mm audio jack. This means you are basically set if you want to connect a load of gaming devices or external sound devices. Oh, and did we mention that the HDMI ports also support VVR, DHCP 2.3M, Freesync Premium and ARC? Doesn’t get better than that!
Speaking of gaming, the PML9506 has you covered for just about anything, with the Phillips P5 Gen5 processor it can keep up with even the most fast-paced games with latency reduced greatly. When you connect a game it will switch automatically to low latency settings when a console is connected.
If you own a PS5 or XBOX series S, you can rely on this TV to fulfil all your performance needs, thus we recommend it if you’re a huge snob for peak video game performance.
The TV has 2x 10W Mid – High Speakers and a 30W Subwoofer which are excellent for making sure the sound is cinema-level quality. Much like Ambilight, the sound surrounds you for a more immersive experience. The sound performs coherently well with good sound separation and solid bass.
The Phillips PML9506 also has access to DTS Play-Fi TV which lets you stream music from the TV in any room through external devices to take the music with you to any room.
One big highlight of the smart features is the customizability, because you can rearrange the apps to your liking and select your favourite apps to show up automatically when you start up the TV. Just when you think it couldn’t get better, it also has a voice control option for those moments when you can’t be bothered to grab the remote.
Overall, the Philips PML9506 is a fantastic TV with no major downsides, so the heavy price tag is more than justified with all the features and the fantastic picture. The TV offers extreme convenience, consistently good performance and luxurious features. While some may find it a bit too extravagant, if you want the best for your primary TV, you can’t go wrong with this TV!
